Tod’s: Casual Elegance

What does it mean to be chic? To portray elegance that incorporates comfort, timeless style and the art of pairing simple and essential pieces.

This is also how I define Tod’s.

The brand is renowned for its famous ‘Gommino’ model, a moccasin with 133 rubber beads on its sole, which give the shoe a new lightness, created by Italian designer Diego Della Valle. This moccasin was inspired by a model that was initially designed for race car driving which the designer discovered during a trip to the United States.

Motivated to succeed, Diego decided to give Gianni Agnelli, CEO of Fiat, a pair of ‘Gommino’ as a gift. A few days later, he was seen wearing the shoes on an Italian television programme: a watershed in the history of Tod’s success.

Diego also presented a pair of ‘Gommino’ to Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant, this enhanced the “American Dream” allure and elegant sportswear look that we associate with Tod’s moccasins… This trend continues today as Hugh Grant, Hillary Clinton and even Madonna have been seen wearing Tod’s moccasins, giving this brand a very unique and valued association.

‘Gommino’ played an important role in the foundation of the brand but nowadays Tod’s has a wide range of footwear in addition to the celebrated moccasin… In their store in Lisbon, I had the opportunity to discover their latest collection… there was such a variety of products – shoes, bags and accessories – alive with colour, elegance and comfort: the essence of Tod’s.

My attention was immediately caught by a new model from the Summer 2018 women’s collection, Gommino fringed suede loafers! I loved it! It’s exactly the type of model I’d like to have in my wardrobe… Staying elegant without neglecting comfort and style

Carnet Chic loves: The brand’s selection of coloured bags, especially the famous ‘D Bag’, a city bag that is perfect for those ready to live life to the fullest! So chic!
