Cordings, Pure British Style

What could I possibly have in common with Eric Clapton? Nothing, you may think… well this may be a bit silly… but in fact there are many things which connect us!

Firstly, I am an unconditional fan of his with decades (not exactly a point in common but I’m going to count it anyway!) and… we certainly have the same musical tastes (wow! Perhaps a bit pretentious but I assure you it’s true…); however what I did realise was that my favourite “pop star” loves clothes, particularly high quality clothing such as the brand Cordings.
Cordins_londonEric is really passionate about this British brand… and since 2003 he is actually a co-owner of the company. Therefore, it was inevitable that I would pay a little visit to this legendary store on Piccadilly Street. Since 1839 Cordings has been selling clothes and shoes to British nobles in addition to British royalty (including the Queen Mother, the Duke of Windsor, the Prince of Wales, Mrs Simpson and many others… musicians and celebrities). All of which have been enthralled by the high quality of this mythic brand.

It’s not really surprising that this famous clientele would be interested in Cordings, this pioneering brand is truly considered one of the icons of British heritage. The brand is renowned for the unique quality of their tweeds, the fine cut of their coats, jackets and hunting clothes.

The store is like a small museum with an authentic décor and displays which illustrate the evolution of the store over the years. I wanted to sit down, order a tea and appreciate each detail in the calm environment (but I assure you I resisted!).

On the first floor, ties in a million colours create a fantastic spectrum of colour to match any shirt or sock as well as a variety of books and magazines. I found a section specifically for “ladies” with scarves, pashminas, etc… all of the highest quality and “Made in the UK”.

Some of the brand’s treasures are found in the lower level: hundreds of trousers and their famous “Cover Coat”, a legendary item which is included in the collections of the V&A museum in London (impressive!).

Now I can understand Eric Clapton’s vision for this brand: “Cordings is particularly special because it represents a philosophy which is about to be lost in London, I am passionate about this brand because I believe it is essential to create and honour the roots that we have in the UK”.

I am sure that you would also like to know more information about this charming store? This is where I leave you… to watch a video of one of the world’s most prestigious brands.
